I’m curious I’d this movement is offset by an increase in pot and adderral (or other things)? Sort of like the Huey Lewis song “Want a New Drug”

For some definitely.

It’s kind of like being LA sober. No alcohol but all kinds of pill and powders.

Others just socialize way less so less reason to be drinking.

I really enjoyed this article Ben! You combined a personal account of your experience with interesting data, trivia, references to similar experiences (like Pollan's) and a lot of haughtiness. I think it's really interesting not only for what it reveals, but also for how you structured and realized it. For me, who am a big espresso drinker (even veery after 10 AM, even though I'm Italian!) it's even more intriguing. Thanks for taking this care in writing it.

Drinking any amount of alcohol causes damage to the brain. https://edition.cnn.com/2021/05/19/health/alcohol-brain-health-intl-scli-wellness/index.html

I would stay far away from drinking, as it provides few benefits compared its cost to your wellbeing, brain function, and health.

None is better than any certainly but at small quantities the body can handle most substances without meaningful long term effects.

The issue is people don’t agree what constitutes a small quantity.
